Taiko Mynydd Du was the first community Taiko drumming group in Wales, set up in 2008 by Ursula Frank. The group developed from the regular workshops that happen near Crickhowell and has had more than 20 different members since it began, ranging in age from 20s to 60s, some travelling considerable distances to play with us. We aim to have fun, develop our skills, repertoire and creativity, gently expand our limits and take the opportunities that come our way to showcase what we do and inspire people to have a go themselves. We are also very interested in developing Taiko for Arts in Health settings.
Following the ‘Get Creative’ event in Abergavenny, people said,
“Excellent energetic fun!”
“Well worth the drive from Hereford!”
“I’ve tried it before and forgotten just how good it is.”
“Lots of fun, had a great time. Definitely see and feel the benefits of Taiko drumming.”
“What a fantastically different thing to do. I feel musical when I didn’t think I was! Thanks!”
If you are a beginner or want to brush up your basic skills, our Introductory courses will give you a great foundation. We teach basic skills and techniques, use simple pieces to develop our playing and provide an opportunity to discover the joy of playing Taiko in a group. Our next course starts in September 2017.
